Strengthening Global Ties: Future of Korea Delegation Visits Albuquerque
In March 2025, Albuquerque welcomed the Future of Korea delegation—representatives from the Korea Economic Institute of America, the U.S. Department of State, and the South Korean Embassy—for a three-day visit focused on strengthening international economic ties.
Hosted by the World Affairs Council of Albuquerque, the visit began with a briefing at the New Mexico Economic Development Department’s Albuquerque office, where the delegation learned about Albuquerque and New Mexico’s economic strengths, including logistics, quantum computing, semiconductors, and solar manufacturing. The delegation engaged with representatives of the City’s, the County’s and the State’s Economic Development Offices, learning more about Albuquerque’s target industry clusters, workforce data, economic trends and the unique locational advantages of Albuquerque. South Korea, New Mexico’s seventh-largest export destination in 2023, was highlighted as a key partner for future trade and investment.
The delegation also toured Q Station, learning about New Mexico’s growing role in aerospace and defense through its Space Valley ecosystem and national laboratories. A roundtable organized by the New Mexico Trade Alliance brought the group face-to-face with local business leaders and innovative companies, including QBiotech, Pajarito Powder, and Dark Sky New Mexico, sparking ideas for international collaboration.
The visit concluded with a community discussion on U.S.–Korea relations, emphasizing the value of international exchange and foreign direct investment.
Albuquerque’s engagement with global partners like South Korea reflects the city’s commitment to building a diverse, innovation-driven, and internationally connected economy.
