CNM’s Quantum Technician Bootcamp Sparks New Pathways to High-Paying Tech Jobs

Albuquerque is staking its claim in the future of tech, and Central New Mexico Community College is leading the charge. Launching this fall, CNM Ingenuity’s Deep Dive Quantum Technician Bootcamp is redefining who gets to work in one of the most advanced sectors of science and technology.

Until now, 90% of workers in the quantum industry held PhDs. But projections show that by 2035, 70% of quantum jobs will require less than a bachelor’s degree. CNM is acting on that shift now, offering a trailblazing program that prepares everyday people for quantum careers with high school diplomas and zero prior experience in math or science.

The program’s promise is bold: in just 10 weeks, participants aged 16 and up can develop the technical skills needed to earn entry-level jobs in the quantum industry, where salaries average $80,000 to $90,000. Whether it’s veterans transitioning out of military service, mothers reentering the workforce, or small business employees gaining cutting-edge training through Job Training Albuquerque, this program opens doors.

“We’re not just training for tomorrow, we’re solving workforce gaps today,” said CNM Ingenuity CEO Kyle Lee. “These skills are relevant across advanced manufacturing and laser-driven systems, which makes this a launchpad for both emerging and established industries.”

Unlike similar programs that can cost up to $25,000, CNM’s Bootcamp comes in at less than half the price, approximately $11,000, and counts for college credit. With support from programs like Hiring Our Heroes and the Military Spouse Career Accelerator Program, some participants may even earn while they learn.

This fall’s inaugural cohort will include 12 pioneering learners, the maximum allowed due to the intensive equipment use and hands-on instruction required. CNM Ingenuity plans to offer two cohorts per year, with the potential to expand the number of cohorts if demand grows.

This initiative is more than a training program, it’s an economic strategy. By developing a local quantum-ready workforce, Albuquerque positions itself as a prime destination for companies in the quantum supply chain, from laser hardware to cleanroom manufacturing.

“This is how we grow our tech economy, by making it inclusive, practical, and bold,” said Max Gruner, Director of Economic Development for the City of Albuquerque. “CNM’s Quantum Technician Bootcamp is not just unique in New Mexico, it’s unlike anything else in the nation.”
