Strengthening Cybersecurity for New Mexico’s Small and Mid-Sized Businesses

Kenneth Ingham has spent more than three decades helping organizations strengthen their cybersecurity and meet increasingly complex governance and compliance requirements. Through his business, Kenneth Ingham Consulting, LLC, he works virtually and on-site with clients across New Mexico, specializing in cybersecurity risk management, NIST- and CMMC-based compliance, and AI-related governance issues. With a PhD focused on adaptive computing applied to cybersecurity and certification as a CMMC Certified Assessor, he helps small and mid-sized businesses, from those with basic security needs to those handling federal controlled unclassified information, understand their risks and meet the standards required to operate securely.

Kenneth began consulting while finishing his undergraduate degree and gradually built a career rooted in curiosity, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of how threats evolve. After UNM Anderson School of Management recommended he add cybersecurity services, the shift became a defining part of his business. Over the years, he earned his MS and PhD, wrote a book, published research across multiple fields, and presented at regional and national cybersecurity events. He remains active in New Mexico’s cybersecurity community through groups such as ChileSec, Infragard, and Infocon.

After the 2008–2009 financial crisis disrupted the consulting landscape, Kenneth moved into academia and later industry, ultimately leading IT security for a mid-sized company and building a dedicated security team. When he returned full-time to consulting, he faced the challenge of rebuilding visibility. A connection through the Albuquerque Regional Economic Alliance led him to the City of Albuquerque’s Small Business Office, where he found support that aligned with both his expertise and his growth goals.

The Small Business Resource Fairs, in particular, proved valuable. Even without hosting a table, Kenneth met several prospective clients at every fair he attended, expanding his network in meaningful ways. He also credits conversations with Small Business Advisor Ken Jackson as especially useful and practical.

Kenneth is already seeing results. He recently helped a client successfully pass its formal CMMC assessment and has several more companies preparing for evaluation. He continues to build agreements with CMMC Assessment Organizations and is focused on smoothing business cycles, growing his client base, and expanding his services. He plans to hire an intern in early 2026 to support a new AI risk-management subscription offering, with the goal of bringing the intern on as a full-time employee if the program succeeds.

Outside of consulting, Kenneth is an avid privacy advocate, an award-winning cave photographer, and an active explorer of New Mexico’s mountains, deserts, and cycling routes. He can be reached at [email protected] or 505-480-7621, and is on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/kenneth-ingham-phd-268795.
