Albuquerque Showcases Quantum Leadership as Host of IEEE Quantum Week Conference

Albuquerque’s role as a rising hub for science and technology took center stage this Labor Day weekend as the city welcomed the IEEE Quantum Week Conference at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

The event brought together more than 1,400 experts and students from across the globe, including two Nobel Prize winners, to share the latest breakthroughs in quantum computing. The conference also delivered a major boost to the local economy, generating an estimated $1.5 million in direct impact while highlighting Albuquerque’s growing prominence in the global innovation ecosystem.

Albuquerque’s Quantum Momentum

The conference underscored Albuquerque’s commitment to building a world-class quantum technology sector. With unmatched assets like Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, leading universities, and a fast-growing startup community, the city is well-positioned to turn quantum science into real-world applications in computing, sensing, communications, and materials.

As Mayor Tim Keller announced during the event, the City’s new Quantum Strategy is designed to accelerate this growth. From the upcoming CNM Quantum Technician Bootcamp, which will train workers for jobs paying $80,000–$90,000 annually, to the State of New Mexico’s $25 million investment in a quantum venture studio and campus in Albuquerque’s Innovation District, momentum is building across research, industry, and workforce development.

Looking Ahead

The success of IEEE Quantum Week in Albuquerque demonstrates the city’s ability to host international scientific gatherings and reinforces its reputation as a place where big ideas can grow. By investing in talent, infrastructure, and partnerships, Albuquerque is not just participating in the future of quantum technology, it’s helping to shape it.
